tip o' the day.

Along with today's wellness theme, I wanted to put a spotlight on high quality foods and how they can make a difference in the way we feel. As Americans, we live a fast-paced lifestyle and often resort to ready-made or cheaper foods. This can often get out of hand and go way over the top. It's difficult, however to makeover our entire diet, so start off with a few changes:

Make the switch to brown rice and brown rice pastas. White rice and semolina (white) pasta are starchy foods, that add inches to our waistline. The switch to darker, grainier foods is easy with the right techniques and recipes. According to my boss' internist, white rice is the glycemic equivalent to white table sugar. Gross.

Make the switch to whole-grain bread. White bread does completely nothing for your body, and whole wheat bread is often an imposter. Here's a hint. If your bread is so flimsy that it gets crushed by other items in your grocery cart, chances are, its doing nothing for you. Also, if your bread contains any "enriched" flour, its garbage. Firm, dark breads are your best bet.

Happy eating!

A great alternative is Basmanti rice, which is white or brown, but a whole grain. It's wonderfully aromatic and goes good with any and all types of ethnic recipes.
